THE ROMAN BALNEUM
During the Roman era (266 B.C.) in Bagno di Romagna, then Balneum, a vast and structured public thermal complex existed, a “sanctuary” connected to health cults of considerable importance, which were already practised by the Umbrians.
Where, in addition to a large number of coins, a bronze statuette of an bidder dated to the 2nd century A.D. stands out, depicting a young woman holding a patera, a saucer used during Roman times for sacrificial ceremonies.
